By The Numbers: 2024 Monster Energy Tour Beaudesert Invitational

By: Sean Walsh  Thursday, February 29, 2024 @ 1:13 PM

As we embark on the second major stop of the 2024 PBR Australia season, the greatest show on the dirt rolls into the South-West of Queensland to Beaudesert, for the first time since the COVID year of 2020.

With some key riders returning to action as well as plenty of room for jostling at the top of both bovine and cowboy athlete standings, this two day event should be a ripper.

PBR Australia's Sean Walsh breaks down some key matchup and stats for you to know ahead of all the action from the Beaudesert Showgrounds this weekend.

Matchups To Watch

Ky Borghero on On Bail (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls)

This is a really nice under the radar matchup between two PBR athletes fresh into their Pro Bull Riding careers, with the MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls young bucker On Bail facing up against a PBRA rookie Cowboy hailing from Proserpine, QLD in Ky Borghero.

The animal athlete's current record of 12-5 from his 17 PBR Australia trips doesn't tell a full story of the power this bull possesses, with all five Qualified Rides coming from PBR Australia event winners (Sam Woodall, Lachlan Richardson and Cody Heffernan) and has a nice track record against left handed riders, having never been covered by a southpaw.

Borghero opened his Monster Energy Tour account in Scone a fortnight ago, taking Nemesis (Maynes Bucking Bulls) for 82.5 points away from his hand to hear the whistle and book himself a short-go opportunity.

With On Bail's trip similar to that of the aforementioned Nemesis turning back to the right in a low spin type of action, it looks like a nice chance for Borghero to become the first lefty to drag a score from the MJ/Keliher bovine and set up his weekend nicely.

Toby Hale on Turbo (ST Bucking Bulls)

Another really exciting battle on the daysheet between one of the most in-form riders on the PBRA tour of current, coming up against a bovine thats only getting better going into his sophomore season on the main stage of Australian bull riding.

Hale is currently sitting third in the PBR Australia standings with a 3-from-8 record since the calendar flicked over to 2024, gaining top 5 finishes at Scone and Cooyar with all three of his career scores to date coming in those two events.

Turbo is a bull that very much lives up to his name, with this high energy bovine's resume one that reads well for this young bull from the ST Bucking Bulls pen, an 8-1 record which is even more impressive with the fact Cody Heffernan is the only cowboy to chalk a score from him.

Look for Turbo to follow the gate and give Hale 2-3 big jumps to clear the chutes before turning back either way, meaning if the Sarina product can find the whistle and become the first southpaw conquer the animal athlete, he will be towards the top of the leaderboard come the close of action on Friday evening.

Cody Heffernan on Haunted (Lazy G/Pukallus)

There's something special about a good battle with some history attached to it and these two have that very ingredient to an intriguing out on Friday evening.

Cody is returning to the PBR Australia tour for his first event of the new season, after injury has kept the 2016 & 2022 Australian Gold Buckle holder out of action for an extended period of time and will be looking to get his year off to a great start.

Previous Matchup: Cody Heffernan 87.5-points on Haunted, Tamworth 2023

Haunted is a bull that like fellow Round 1 bucker Turbo, his only black mark being the aforementioned Heffernan, who was able to take him all the way in Tamworth last October for 87.5 points.

On that night Heffernan grabbed a 44.75-point rider score, totally dominated away from his hand and will be looking to double down on Haunted and get back where we've known the Singleton cowboy to be, at the top of the standings.
